CRYOTHERAPY

WHAT IS WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY

Cryotherapy is the general use of low temperatures in medical therapy. It’s not new, in fact

Whole body Cryotherapy was developed in Japan by Professor Toshiro Yamaguchi in 1978 for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Since then there has been much research into the other health benefits including weight loss.

With whole body Cryotherapy, the body is exposed to extremely low temperatures of −140°c for up to 3 minutes. During this time, the average skin temperature drops to about 10°c whilst the core body temperature remains unchanged. Once you are in the Cryosauna (your head and neck area are not covered by the chamber and so are exposed to room air above the device), a fine nitrogen mist is then sprayed onto your body in order to lower the temperature. You are never left alone. A trained Medical Grade Therapist stays with you throughout your treatment and you can leave the chamber at any time you wish during the treatment.

THE BEST FAT BURNER

The reason CRYO can assist with your weight loss program is that it rapidly increases your metabolic rate which, combined with regular exercise and healthy eating is the best way to lose fat faster than you normally would. After your CRYO treatment, your brain signals to the rest of your body to pump blood to your core to increase your body heat and therefore your metabolic rate. Then, the enriched blood rushes back out and through your body, boosting immunity, cell renewal, and providing natural pain relief. Your body is therefore using a considerable amount of energy to heat back up again and this is how CRYO’s whole body therapy, as a supplement to your healthy eating and exercise plan, will assist you to achieve a faster weight loss.

For up to about 8 hours following your whole body CRYO session, you’ll burn about 2000−3300 Kilojoules (kJ). That’s around 500 – 800 calories. So, a 3 minute CRYO session is the equivalent of a 45 minute run. In order to achieve weight loss, you need to burn an extra 500 calories per day. One session will have you feeling amazingly energised as the cold temperatures trigger a rush of “good feeling” endorphins and the mood effects of the treatment can last for days.

If it’s weight loss you’re after, then you’ll achieve the maximum results with repeated sessions, along with improved circulation and muscle tone.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A CRYO SESSION TO LOSE WEIGHT?

In order to achieve the maximum weight loss results with CRYO, in addition to your healthy eating and exercise plan, we recommend that you book in for a minimum of 10 sessions within a 2-3 week period and it’s safe to have a CRYO session every day. The reason for this is after your first few sessions, your increased metabolic rate tends to last longer between treatments and therefore the benefits are cumulative.

At CRYO, we are able to personalise a programme for you to assist you in your weight loss goals with a number of different packages.

HOW IT WORKS

The body is surrounded by hyper-cooled air at an average temperature of -222 F for 2 to 3 minutes. Cold sensors in the skin send a signal to the brain which causes blood to rush to the body's core. As blood is circulated through the core, toxins are flushed out and blood becomes enriched with oxygen and all the necessary enzymes and nutrients.

ACCELERATE

When the session ends, the oxygenated nutrient and enzyme enriched blood rushes through the body accelerating the natural recovery process. The release of endorphins, metabolic rate, and production of collagen are accelerated.

RECOVERY

Recovery time is shortened, energy level is dramatically increased, and the endorphin release aids the body in dealing with pain and inflammation. The increase in metabolic rate allows the body to burn more calories and the production of collagen improves whole body skin elasticity and smoothness.  Just 3 minutes for whole body recovery.

IS LIQUID NITROGEN A HARMFUL GAS?

Nitrogen is in the very air we breathe. It is a non-toxic gas, and only dangerous when it displaces oxygen. The user has their head out of the chamber and can breathe normally. Our adjustable foam foot pads make it so that the chamber fits users of any size. There is also an oxygen sensor near the location of the user’s head to ensure there is proper air quality in the headspace.

WILL I GET STUCK OR FROZEN?

Since the chamber reaches such a low temperature, some may fear getting stuck or frozen. Yet, the nitrogen gas produces a dry cold. The user does not get wet in the process. There will not be frozen droplets on the body?

WHY DOES THE VALVE GET SNOWY? WHY CAN'T I TOUCH IT?

Owners of a cryotherapy chamber must rent liquid nitrogen dewars that sometimes get snowy, which is normal. The substance may even cover a valve. We advise against touching it as an added precaution.

WHAT ARE THE NOISES IT MAKES? CAN THE DEWER BLOW UP?

Once in a while there is an outward flow of the gas, making a hissing sound. Though there is pressure inside liquid nitrogen dewars, these tanks will surely not blow up!

IS THERE DANGER OF GETTING FROSTBITE?

Frostbite will not occur as long as users wear the correct protective wear: gloves and boots to cover the hands and feet. For further explanation, visit the following brief blog post: Frostbite Prevention during Cryotherapy

FAQ'S

Whole body cryotherapy is the process of immersing one’s body in sub-arctic temperatures for a few minutes at a time. It is mainly used for reduced inflammation, faster recovery, and increased collagen production. Some may be intimidated by the XR cryo chamber itself. We’re here to put those fears to rest. At Cryo Innovations, SAFETY is our top priority.
There are claims about cryotherapy that are not true. If you are uncertain about the process or want to learn more, read our blog post: Cryotherapy Fact vs Fiction.
